Awful - this is exactly the sort of behaviour that harms the cats though people may mean well.

That's very true Aminah. One of the articles I read also mentioned that there are well-meaning people who are 'enablers' - who try and help these people but end up doing more harm to the cats and to the hoarders. It's akin to giving money to an alcoholic to buy more alcohol - it doesn't help anyone.
