"But we don't want any cats there" Part II

One of the country clubs was trapping cats to be sent to be killed today. I called them up and explained a TNRM programme to them. When I asked if the cats kept coming back when they trapped the cats, the woman agreed and said it happened all the time. I also asked if they were attracted to the food outlets, and she said that they were. She said the programme made sense, but that people didn't want any cats there.

I explained that it just doesn't work that way - that they're wasting money by hiring pest control, and this woman says that the pest control bills them a certain amount so whether the pest include cats or not, the price remains the same! I asked her why the pest control, a profit making company, would be trapping cats for them for free and asked her if she didn't think the amount was just factored into the total cost? Apparently, this had not occurred to her.

The last country club I rang said that the club was 'exclusive' so they didn't want to have cats on the premises. Like I said, unless someone in the club can basically contravene a law of nature, I have NO idea how they intend to stop the cats coming on. Plus they KNOW the cats keep coming onto their grounds, it's costing them money to get rid of the cats, but they just prefer to trap the cats anyway. I just don't get it.

Wouldn't it be nice if a cat could somehow speak, "But yeah, we don't want any humans there, cos my ancestors came along before the human evolution took place."

Ha. Who's the lesser being here.

Sorry, Dawn, I'm just p*ssed knowing how callous and misplaced arrogant some Singaporeans can be.

This reminds of the cricket club that wants to retain its exclusiveness by excluding "maids".
If only they realise that fart smells the same, whether from a snob, a begger or a cat.
And don't we all rot the same way?

Yes - I think it's a sign that some people just aren't comfortable enough with themselves. If you're happy with whom you are and what you are, why would the presence of a cat make you feel that the club/condo/etc that you're in is losing it's exclusivity?

They're considering it and said they'll get back to me, but they don't want me to make a trip down and present - they said it might be a 'waste of time' if they don't decide to adopt it. I told the lady if they don't have the facts, how can they make a decision? I also told her this is really NOT a waste of my time if we can get a programme going. Repeating "we don't want cats at all' ad nauseum does not make the problem go away.

i think the reason why people arent as quick to accept the TNR programme is cuz they jus want INSTANT, VISIBLE results, therefore trapping. they're simply not interested in the long-term end results for they may be working there in the next year or month. who knows? who cares?

Persuading them that TNR works in the LONG-TERM is going to take time. changing mindsets take TIME, educating takes TIME. we'll just have to be very, very patient :(

I wonder if some of us spend some quiet moment reflecting on why we as human beings are here, other than for "mundane" procreation purpose which unfortunately has resulted in imbalance of population distribution.
What have we "achieved"? Wow...."bery" impression. Bombs that vaporised so many Japanese and not mentioned in the documentaries, many animals as well. Wow...we revolutionise farmings into high productive hell-holes to feed our never ending palatal craving in ever increasing fast food. Fast food joints also specialise in polluting the environment with disposables and free gift gimmicks.
So under human "guidance" this earth is now like a very frail old lady, gasping for oxygen and soon the death rattles will come. And yet the chief inhabitants remain smugged in selfishness supported by a hugely inflated sense of EGO.

Yes we like to say that cats kill birds but the reality is that We are killing the environment that makes it suitable for birds to live in. We're deforesting the planet. We produce huge amounts of pollution. We fight wars for no reason and kill people for the same. And then instead of realising that we can do better we look around for something to blame so we dont have to feel so bad.
