IPC status

Our IPC application was turned down again, this time by the Singapore Environment Council for the second time. I'm writing to ask why and whether there's anything we can do to reapply. We were rejectd by the National Council of Social Services for essentially not being people orientated enough. It's really difficult to apply for IPC (and hence get tax deduction for donors) if you're an animal welfare group it seems. I'm so disappointed.

Does anyone has a copy of PM Lee Hsien Loong's speech sometime last year when he mentioned compassion that includes animal welfare groups? Perhaps a copy of that speech can be forwarded to SEC?

Not sure what SEC's reasons are - they may think we're not environmental enough.

PM Lee's Budget Speech (18th February 2005)

"Remaking our economy and our society is not just the task of Government. Success ultimately depends on the values, attitudes, and the
collective actions of all Singaporeans. It is individual creativity, individual excellence, and individual passion that will sustain us as a vibrant people with
an enterprising economy. And it is acts of kindness and compassion in a community bound together in a social compact that makes us care for each other and support the vulnerable – this way we will become a caring and inclusive society."

PART IV – CARING AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETY

Recognise explicitly “other purposes beneficial to the community”

4.28 Second, I will explicitly recognise as charitable purposes several purposes that we now group under “other purposes beneficial to the community”, to encourage the groups undertaking these activities, as well as encourage Singaporeans to donate to these groups. The purposes are:

the advancement of health;
the advancement of citizenship or community development;
the advancement of the arts, heritage or science;
the advancement of environmental protection or improvement;
the relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage; and
the advancement of animal welfare.

Yes I agree - I'm waiting to see why they turned us down. They may feel we're not environmental enough.

I don't see why CWS is not people orientated. Dealing with cat feeders, complaints from residents, working with town council staff. Mediation. Educating people. CWS is working with people to make people/society and also cats happy.

Do SPCA and ASD have IPC status?

No they don't either.
