Adoption postings

The volunteer who helps answer all the adoption board requests mentioned to me today that some potential adopters get very annoyed if not contacted by the fosters within a certain time. One of the fosters recently went away and did not tell the adoption volunteers. As such, the volunteers emailed the foster and called, but could not get the foster.

In the meantime, as this was a 'popular' kitten, the requests came flooding in, and in its wake, five different angry emails that no one had contacted them. One woman said that she thought that there was no such kitten at all and that it was made up. Why we would waste our time posting fake kittens is beyond me. Most people want certain kittens, so it's not as if they will settle for another kitten if the one they want is not available.

So fosters, please let us know if you are unavailable for some time (that kitten had actually been adopted out by this time) and adopters, please realise that we don't have the kittens. We forward your emails, but we can't insist that the adopters must answer. We will black list people if they consistently do not reply - whether adopter or foster.

I had some bad experiences with potential adopters. 4 people said that they would call (next week) to make an appointment to view the kittens... None actually called. When I emailed them again, 2 said they had been busy but were still interested in adopting, but again did not call... Don't think I could trust them to care for the kittens.

Some people also have a list of kittens and the ones you had might be just one choice. Others may have lost interest by then. Neither of which of course as you pointed out makes for a good adoption.

It's just our basic lack of manners.

I have had problems with potential adopters who make appointments to see the kittens at the foster's place but never showed up. This is especially annoying because I had to make a trip especially to the foster's place just to meet the adopters. I can't help but to think that there are many people out there who think that we "cat people" are here for them to push around.

Some adopters also think we desperate to have the cats adopted out. Perhaps some rescuers are but certainly not a general attitude.

I agree with Vegancat. Some adopters are surprised that adopters are so 'fussy' about cats they think no one wants. Some fosters also will give the cats out to just anyone, so that may contribute to the notion.

i think it works both ways. while there are fosters who dont call me, there are adopters who cant be contacted, or fail to turn up for viewing.

so i think cws should just ignore these complaints.
