Cats in HDB flats

I just got off the phone with a woman who had a complaint lodged against her and the HDB came to her home and then sent her an official letter asking her to remove the cats. She had been feeding a community cat outside her flat, which I suspect is what made someone complain in the first place.

She went to see the MP last night and according to her, her MP was sympathetic but told her that there was not much he could do. He said he knew a lot of people kept cats, but that she must have had a complaint lodged against her. He said that often if there were no complaints, then people kept cats quite happily with no problems.

She mentioned what a nice man he was. He offered to write her a letter, but said that it might get her into more trouble as this would be akin to admitting she had cats at home. It's a shame. It seems from stories people tell me that many MPs are quite sympathetic about keeping cats in flats and even so, people still cannot do so.

Hi! Dawn,

Do you know the details of the complaint? how many cats??? what did they do? The letter -- if she don't comply, how?

I don't know about her situation, but I know sometimes cat will not finish the food that is left for them. I feed them myself and I always wait for them to finish what they want to eat and take away those that they don want. Cats eat quite fast, don't they?? So....wats the problem??? sign......

Unfortunately her husband opened the door and told the officer they had cats. Also she was luring a community cat upstairs to eat - which is really not a wise move. The problem often is that if the cats go up and eat, they defecate on the way back down again - and someone is going to get upset. It's not the feeding, but the location of the feeding. I suspect that's why there was a complaint.

Very simple. Board the cats.
Let HDB and that "asshole" neighbour check the flat. All clear.Bring cats back and stop feeding the cat outside the door!

Joanne, I'm deleting your email address because I don't think it's a good idea to have iit on a website that can be accessed by anyone. Do be careful about where you post your email.

what would have to be done to get this regulation against cats in HDB flats reassessed, or removed?

We've been given so many reasons flyer - we need the older generation to pass away being one of them! One reason they gave was that not enough people in HDB flats write in to ask to keep cats.

And then who defines "enough"?

3000 people in 3 weeks clearly wasn't - and we really didn't even go all out. Most of them were collected at an exhibition and through email.

Cats do not create trouble. Humans do! They complain with the slightest "inconvenience" that they see. But sometimes i don't blame them cos some cat owners have too many cats and their house stinks like hell! These ppl need to be educated on "cat management"!! Doesn't mean they like cats they can keep as many cats as they want but taking care or them and feeding them the best food....I don't think many ppl know how to do that!! I personally LOVE cats A LOT!! Although I have 4 cats at home, I keep them clean and my house is very clean too! Some guest can't even notice that i keep cats because i keep my house very clean. So please...anybody anyone please its not cats that are a nuisance...its the irresponsible ppl who keeps too many cats and do not know how to take care of them!!!! I am seriously against banning of cats in HDB flats because cats are not a nuisance!!!!!
