Lounging on office chair

Lounging on office chair

I had to pass a cat trap to a young lady to pick up a sick cat, and I saw this cat on the way.

Aluminium? Stainless steel? :)

What we do with ours is to cover them with another sheet on top and take it off when guests come. However, if they sink their paws in of course this won't help very much!

Hard wood - like those indonesian furniture from widharja.
Alternately is to get the softclick nail covers for the cats - not available here but can order online.

I would say get an inexpensive/second hand sofa and let the cats wear it out further. It will give your house/flat a cool, lived-in, bohemian look.

Basically our cats like something stable, upright/slanting, soft wood they could sink their claws in (most important consideration)for a good workout. A cheap cane chair (from ikea) lasts a long time. They would leave your other "unsuitable" furniture alone.
It is cheaper than buying one scratching board after another.

That's a good suggestion. I actually have one Ikea chair (a cheap rattan one) that I bought a few years ago. That's for the cats to scratch on and they leave the rest of the furniture alone. I also bought Stickypaws from the US and put that on the furniture I DIDN'T want them to scratch on, but except for one cat, the rest really don't need that.

Basically, we've already "written off" our furniture when we decided to get a cat.

We have a fabric-covered sofa that Angel loves to scratch. She didn't like the scratching post (so we gave that away). Since we sit on the sofa often, she likes to scratch while she climbs up the sofa and sit next to us.

Helps that your furniture is not so expensive that you keep thinking of its "depreciation value".
