Dear Dawn,

My family and I are great friends with the Bangladesh cleaners at our blk, we always leave small portions of dried food everyday at the remote area of our void deck for the community cat Girl-Girl whom we have been taking care of after we had her sterilized. Today, the cleaner told us that his supervisor threatened to fine us if he catch us feeding girl girl again. But from what I know, we always ensure that the food we gave are all eaten before we leave the feeding area and there has never been any mess left behind. Also cat feeding is not a crime, I wonder what I can do if I see that cleaning supervisor. Pls advise. Thanks.

Anonymous, why not call the supervisor up and find out what the problem is exactly? Does your TC know you are caring for the cats there?

If you feed the cats and leave the papers and plates behind, then you are asking for trouble. You risk your cats being trapped and killed because some residents or the cleaning supervisor will complain to the TC and you can say 'bye bye' to your cats. You must be discreet when feeding cats. Bring them to an area with no human traffic and less visible to people. After feeding, clear away all the papers, plastic bags, etc.. otherwise it will attract lots of red ants, cockroaches and rats. Feeding is not a crime but dirtying the environment is considered wrong and you will be fined if caught. So, protect yourself and protect your cats.

I also feed strays (abt 20 cats) and I learnt from other experienced feeders on how to handle complaints, stray cats, nosy residents and nagging cleaners and their supervisors.

What Dawn said is right. You must talk to the supervisor and find out the cause.

Hi Dawn! That orange sweetheart looks just like my baby. We have 2 at home (landlord will not allow more) but I feed all the neighborhood strays. This season when the school ends is horrible for cats, so many are abandoned by students who are leaving. They just break my heart.

Anonymous,

As stated earlier, there was never a mess left behind as we did not use any plates, we just left the dry food in a corner of the void deck..
