Another SMS going around

I'm sure at least some of you have gotten an SMS going around about another reported mass culling exercise going on in one of the areas. We're working on the situation now.

Unfortunately some of the other residents in the area have been less than supportive. We had been encouraging them to engage the town council in dialogue about this issue, as there were signs that this might happen, but there were quite a few who didn't want to talk to the TC but were more interested in trying to sterilise what cats they could catch, instead of looking at the wider scale of the matter. Via the SMSes and emails, I have been getting, I have seen that the SMS advises people to take cats in - this just means NEW cats are going to move in, and THEY are going to be caught.

Again, if the residents who are there do not want to speak up, it bodes extremely badly for the cats. Instead of working together at a workshop we held for them, they were more interested in complaining about the other members in the group. If they can't put it aside to help the cats, again that is extremely bad news for the cats.

Please do NOT contact the press as some people have been saying they will do. The caregiver in the area I am working with wants to try and resolve this first with the TC directly.

How do you recommend we talk to the TC?

Since the SMSes, I'm pretty sure they must be bombarded by calls on which would already have put them in a defensive mood?

Well it's best to ask for a meeting for the caregivers and to sit down and work it out WITH the TC if at all possible. Also have a good solution - for example, instead of doin't kill the cats you evil people, say, please consider working on a TNRM programme with your residents. Give solutions, logical ones. Also get your facts straight first so that you know what you're asking for when you call or email or SMS.

The thing is, the TCs & the MPs are aware of what TNRM is but they won't acknowledge its advantage or refuse to see the advantages for political reasons or maybe they just simply cannot be bothered. Easier to cull than the sterilised. I don't know.

I agree, we should try to talk it out with the TC with logic rather than emotion. But I do feel sometimes I'm talking to the brick wall. Even with the MP's office.
These people can be deliberately thick at times.

& I agree, hiding the cats doesn't help & bringing this issue to the press just aggravates the situation. Instead of saving the cats, we're simply expediting their deaths.

Cat I think that most MPs and TCs are actually NOT really aware of what TNRM entails. To a lot of them, TNRM is letting a bunch of crazy cat people bring lots and lots of cats into the estate. You'll be surprised how many people in TC meetings have told me that they are sure that feeders will bring more cats in. After all, they love cats right? So they'll want more!

Some officers are deliberately thick - but some really have no clue. You need to assume they have zero knowledge and work from there. You'll be surprised - some don't even know sterilisation means no more kittens.

Culling of cats? where? Is it true.

My area here is very peaceful. We feed and sterilise. No problem at all.

Is the culling at Yishun because of Mrs. Lee

Anonymous - we're trying to confirm it because we're getting conflicting messages.

No culling in Yishun - and no, not because of the case.
