Chinese Evening Papers

Veganmeowies told me that a friend of hers had seen an article about a cat being thrown down from a block of flats in Yishun. I spoke with her friend, who said that it was in either the ShinMin or the WanBao last night. Does anyone have access to these papers from yesterday, and could they please help me take a look?

This morning, another feeder in AMK North told me that a cat was thrown down from a highrise building in Yishun. At first, I thought it was a rumour.

So many abuse cases. Better keep your cats indoors for safety reasons. Especially those who let their cats roam freely. Be careful, your cat might be the next victim.

Wasn't there a letter about some serial cat killer in Bedok who does the same? Could they be connected?

Could it be kids? Perhaps in this case, we should be looking for kids instead of adults. I know that some kids throw cats off in the mistaken notion that cats can survive any fall. And kids being kids do it for the fun of it not realising that the cat dont think it is fun and that it is fatal.

Could be - or the cat could have fallen. It's hard to say.

Replying to the question on Bedok serial cat killer name David Hooi, could he be the one doing the cat killing in Yishun - I thought David Hooi is still in jail or in a mental institution?
David Hooi cat killing happened in Bedok area, where he stayed, not at other places.
Anyone any idea what happen to David Hooi? Is he released or still in custody?

Just spoke to the family. There is no proof that the cat was thrown. I advised them to install wire mesh to keep their other cat safe... and the new kitten that they wish to adopt. I may just have one that is looking for a good home :)

Cat thrown off 9th floor in Yishun

In a case of cat abuse, a 14 month old female cat died after falling
from the 9th floor in Yishun.

Two police cars were dispatched, and the police conducted a two hour
investigation.

The owner of the cat is a 15 year old girl, who was shocked and cried
in grief when she arrived at the scene.

This cat abuse case happened in Yishun St 72 Block 755 on the 27th of
August at around noon.

The greyish white pet cat died instantly after being thrown off the 9th floor.

Someone saw the body and called the police immediately. Reader Mr. Xie
called this paper's hotline.

When this reporter arrived at the scene, the cat's body was already
covered with a white plastic cloth by the police.

The cat owner's parents were also on the ground floor of the block,
and police were taking statements from them. The family live on the
9th floor.

Soon after, Nur, 15, who was earlier attending religious class,
arrived in a hurry after hearing about the incident from her father,
and upon realizing that her cat had died from the fall, cried aloud in
grief.

She said that the dead cat was only 14 months old, and was already
neutered when she was 5 months old.

Police sent the dead cat to SPCA for postmortem.

The case has been classified as mischief and is still under
investigation. Anybody who can help the police in the case can call
the police hotline 1800-2550000.

Complaints that the cats were noisy

The cat's owners believe that the cat did not fall off accidentally,
but was thrown off deliberately by someone.

It seems that the owners usually let the two cats roam in and out of
the house freely, and sometimes they even walk on the parapet wall.

Therefore some neighbours guessed that the cat might have slipped and
fallen accidentally.

However Nur and here parents are positive that their cat could not
have slipped, as it was always very careful and walked only on the
inner side of the parapet wall.

They also said that they have received some complaints recently that
the cats are too noisy.

According to the Mischief Act, any person charged with mischief can be
jailed for a maximum of 2 years and/ or fined.

Under the Animals and Birds Act, the person could be fined a maximum
of $10,000 or jailed for a maximum term of 1 year, or both.

The AVA's figures reveals that 7,000 dogs and 13,000 cats are being
put to sleep every year by the AVA and the SPCA.

On the other side, there are about 3,700 stray cats and 1,000 stray
dogs sent for sterilization by the AVA and animal welfare
organizations every year.

Greyish White Cat Adopted As a Baby

Nur had been very close with the cat, which she adopted when it was a
baby. They used to sleep in the same room, and she had toys for the
cat.

Nur said in tears that she had two female cats, one was the 14 month
old greyish white cat, and the other an 18 month old black cat.

The black cat was picked up as a stray, and the greyish white one was
given to her by her aunt when it was a baby.
