Frontline tonight

Thanks for the reminder KY and Vegancat. The episode on Animal Abuse is going to air tonight at 10:30 pm on Channel 8. This was the interview they wanted me to do in Mandarin, but which I did in English in the end and it's largely about the Jurong abuse cases from what I've been told.

They only showed you taking cat pics.

They also asked the typical older uncles in kopitiams if they believed cat killers may kill people... of course the resounding response is no loh. *roll eyes*

I can't understand why they didn't cite the FBI studies which said 78% of their serial killer/serious crime/violent crimes study subjects for their profiling work began with animal abuse at a young age.

(am peeved enough by it to come post after watching - am usually asleep by now =P )

Poor Calsifer - the psychiatrist did mention there were some studies that show some linkage though.

i'm really doubtful abt the whole purpose of the show..

after talking so much abt abuse cases, the ask KOPITIAM ppl (im not saying anything bad abt kopitiam ppl) but they are resident/singaporeans who USUALLY does not care much about the welfare of the cats.. much more to say about those staying at their void decks..

the psychiatrist did mentioned something abt cat abuser's mentality.. but i dont think stubborn ppl are able to digest what he's saying..

I think it is good to show what the "real" grassroot people think about issues like this and present a professional's view as well. Perhaps they will rethink what they thought.
I think it is generally positive and the ending of giving space to cats as well may stir up innard kindness in more members of our own species. As for the man who said you didn't see people who killed pigs in abattoir killing people, well...i wonder how such people pass their lives.....idea for another program?

I am uploading the program into grouper. Will post the URL when completed.

Why ask a question like that of the kopi tiam folks? What purpose does it serve? Ain't there better questions to ask the grassroot folks. I am not saying not to ask their opinion. The cats live amongst the "grassroot" folks; of course their opinion is important.
How would an uncle be able to tell you if there is a link between animal-killing & violent crimes. It is like asking me if a smile would make a difference in the IMF conference. Urg ????

The question is clearly meant for the psychiatrist, a trained professional. Getting responses from the ordinary folks is like asking Pr 6 kids to answer O level questions.

I think what they were trying to show is that if locals feel that animal abusers are seen as dangerous to humans. Well take it as good honest feedback. Clearly to them (The locals) they dont think it is a big deal.

i caught the show. that's the problem with MSM. it's not as objective as one would think. asking 1 sector of pple IS NOT reflective of the general populace. almost unfair,if you ask me.

there should have been a better representation of opinions across society. and AVA.

one kopitiam uncle said in typical stupid singapore fashion - that abbatoir workers who slaughter pigs don't become murderers ...

feel like telling him off 'thats an occupation, they kill pigs for the meat, whereas david hooi is a pervert' ... shows this stupid man didnt even give much thought to the matter, so why bother interviewing him at all ? *irritating*

I guess it goes to show we have a long way to go in changing the mindset of some people.

Hi Vegancat, thank you for the recording. Didn't catch it on tv last friday. Sound system not too good but picture good enough. Still wondering where/who is Dawn?

I appeared for a split second - they cut my segment out :) I basically talked about abuse and the link to violence, so I think a psychiatrist was the right person to get to speak about this.

The psychiatrist said that the link could not be applied across the board...
Only one psychiatrist was interviewed and no young residents (above 21) living in the neighbourhood were interviewed. What is the standard of mass media nowadays?

After watching Get Real tonight, I'm asking myself the same question.
