First you feed.....

Someone wrote to say there is a mother cat and kittens outside her home. She has been writing to ask if someone can take them away. I asked if anyone had been feeding the cats and in her email that just came in it appears that the COMPLAINANT herself used to feed the cat. Now she does not wish the cats to come up so she has stopped feeding - but the cats are clearly still going up.

I don't understand why people would do this - they feed because it was fun or made them feed good, but when it becomes troublesome, then they want to pass the problem to someone else. And this is a problem that was entirely caused by them!

This reminds me of a case i attended to months back. This man wanted all the cats to be removed from his block to a "better" place. I told him there's no better place for the cats, all cats removed would be put to sleep.

He then complained of 1 cat that kept going into his house. I told him I would talk to his neighbours not to feed upstairs and he actually told me HE was the one who fed the cat at his doorstep! I nearly fainted!
I told him to stop feeding and he said he didn't really mind the cat going into his house sometimes but depends on his mood.
I went home and scream after that.

Mood swing can cause blood pressure to go up for others. At least Dawn can smile a little because the cats are not insane at his end.

I would have screamed at his *&^%# face if not for Dawn's blog, knowing she had dealt with worse cases so often and still keeping her head cool.
I sure hope no complaints from him again now that he knows there is no "better" place and keeping my fingers crossed for his good mood.
Incidentally i am quite surprised that a lot of people do not know that cats are put to sleep if caught. Perhaps besides TNRM, should we also promote awareness of abandonment being a crime and also that cats are actually PTS and not to some heavenly place.
Can CWS come up with such posters? I wanted to do up some notices and paste it around the blocks but I was worried it wasn't right and town council may just complain to CWS.

We have one at the moment but are tweaking it. If you're interested, drop me an email, but yes do get your TC's permission to put it up.
