Talk at Bukit Purmei RC event

I'm giving a talk at the Bukit Purmei Community Day this Sunday, 21st January. While the original topic was supposed to be about responsible pet ownership, I told them I'd be speaking more on community cats and TNRM. Preparing the outline for the talk now.

I stay at Bukit Purmei and it would help if you advocate a TRNM program in my place. There are quite alot of cats in my area and recently there have been a few litters of kittens. Luckily for now, most of the residents are older folk who tolerate the animals. (we have a persian and a dog that are pets who are allowed to roan freely in the estate) Perhaps they are lonely and find some comfort in them.

However everyday I fear that one day someone will complain and the cats will be culled.

I certainly will be - my talk is based on that. What is important is to get the people looking after the animals to get involved. Drop by if you're around!

Please do not let your cat and dog roam on their own, it's not safe as people can call the pest cotrol to have them removed.

Sorry first Anonymous - did you mean that the cat and dog are yours or community cats and dogs? If it's the former, then yes, please do take Anonymous' two's advice and keep them in - it's safer for them.

Oh no they are not mine. I mean we as in the residents. The cat and the dog belong to the provision shop and the hair dresser respectively. You can spot them sometimes outside the vet at Bukit Purmei.

Bukit Purmei is at present a pretty pet friendly neighbourhood, you see many elderly folk walking dogs and even my neighbour has a cat. We also have neighbourhood programs which feature pets. We also see feeders and lots of cats in the area. So far there is no issue with the cats as some of them have been around for years. However I still fear that one day someone new to the estate will complain to TC.

It would be good if the RC was supportive of the programme then, and it would be good if someone in the estate is willing to be the contact for the TC whenever problems arise so it doesn't happen.
