Cat nap

Cat nap
Originally uploaded by dawnkua.

I saw this cat yesterday when I went for mediation in the afternoon. Apparently he likes to sleep on the neighbours' chairs outside which does bother them. He's so friendly though that if you walk right up to him, he doesn't react - which isn't a good thing for a community cat!

The complainant had said that a cat jumped into her flat the night before Chinese New Year so I walked to every unit above and below hers to ask if they had seen any cats. I also spoke to other residents in the block. None of those I had spoken to had seen a cat nor did they know of anyone who fed cats up there. Of course there were a few cat owners but at least one of them was very responsible with the door covered up. As he pointed out to me, he didn't want his cat to be hurt while it was running around outside either.

The block was fairly new so not everyone has moved in yet. I called the complainant and she seemed fairly satisfied that something had been done.

The best news was that as I was leaving, I bumped into a woman at the mailbox and was asking her about the cats. She asked if there was anyway she could help and she has now offered to mediate!

Haiya, they should have known better! If you provide such a comfy piece of cushion/mattress or mat on the chair, surely the cat, any cat would jump into it and has a good night sleep!!

If the family does not want any cat, maybe they just simply move the chair back into the house.

Precisely. The corridor is a public area by the way. They don't own that area. Any item put along the corridor is subject to usage, abuse, etc.

If they are so neow, move the chair back in!!

i agree with iwooiblog. look at it from the kitty's point of view - wldn't u choose a warm soft spot over the cold hard floor? especially when it rains. poor kitty. he looks so comfy!

I agree - the sad thing is that when neighbours get annoyed and start complaining about the cats. When I explained the cat was sterilised and was probably being cared for, and gave her a brochure, she seemed a bit happier though.

Sadly iwooiblog - people often don't see why they 'should' do it, even though as Anonymous rightly pointed out, they're not actually supposed to leave objects in the common area either!

First of all I thought putting chair outside the house is not legal as it blocks the way? Well, the cat is sure entitled to a good sleep on the cushion. LOL. What a waste after all since it might be empty most of the day.

See la, after being a cat owner myself for the past 4 years or so... everything I think of the cat first! Ha ha ha!

Ya you guys are absolutely right, in the first place the flat owner cannot place that chair out along the corridor as it is illegal, obstructs safe passage, traffic and also pose a fire hazard.

By the way, what floor is this? More dangerously, what if a child, or even an adult, were to use it as, well, a jumping platform and leap off from there???!!!

How is the flat owner going to be responsible??

Oh I see. No wonder, it gives more easy access for all the cats to come... to them, this is their "Osim chair"!! Ha ha ha...
