Stressed Singaporeans crack down on monkeys

Thanks Otterman for sending in this link :-

Stressed Singaporeans crack down on thieving monkeys

I like how other countries deal with this - they set up feeding stations, sort of like cat cafes for monkeys. Not surprisingly, here we kill them. It's a shame that we seem to think the solution to everything is to kill when a little compassion would go a long way. 80 monkeys a year - that works out to 80 monkeys killed because some people like the woman baking get upset that the monkeys helps themselves to her cakes.

The monkeys are lured out of the forest to eat because people feed them inappropriately. I would say the analogy with cats is similar to that of feeding the cats upstairs where they are not welcome.

It's truly a very sad situation. Our government's attitude is to just kill. Basically, that has bred a nation of people that seems to think that killing is ok.

Truly very sad.

The good thing is that, luckily not the whole nation is like that. We still have people like the CWS, ASD, HRS, ACRES who fight constantly for these animals' right to live.

Time for a Animal Management Board.
Reduction in the monkeys' population thru sterilization just like for the cats and dogs.

I once visited a 'monkey temple' in thailand where the monkeys were allowed to roam freely. They climbed on people, stole food and drinks and snatched jewellery, but they are considered a tourist attraction. Here such behaviour would get them killed. Sick society what can I say
