Kitten on harness

Kitten on harness
Originally uploaded by dawnkua.

Kitten on string may have to be renamed - he's now kitten on a harness! The man took out a pair of scissors and cut off the nylon string - which made us very happy. He's on a harness which will probably be safer (though he could still get caught technically). The adoption volunteer asked the man to be sure to monitor the cat and make sure he doesn't get hurt.

The adoption volunteer and I struggled with the very active kitten for quite a few minutes making sure that the harness was on. The man was quite worried that the kitten was bitey (he was) so he left us to put the harness on.

At the end, he told us that he may be leaving Singapore in a month's time. He said that he would like to give the kitten to us as he can see we love cats.

Huh? Then what's going to happen to the kitten?! Would the kitten be too old to be easily adopted out by then?

It looks cool with the harness on! But what's going to happen to the poor kitty?

Put it up for adoption I think - worry is that we can see it growing! Soon it'll be past the adoptable 'kitten' stage.

Maybe can take pictures and screen potential adopters first? But let them know they can only get the kitten about a mth later or sth?

Hi Eve, what if he decides not to give the cat to us, or he decides that he's not going away?

Dawn and i spent at least 10 mins (with bites/kicks all the way) adjusting the harness as we did not want kitten catching lower jaw on harness & to ensure a comfortable but safe fit. Uncle (with scratches on his hands) and despite his claim of experience was clearly unable to cope. Dawn and i had no experience with the harness. It is basically a 8 with the o over the head and the large O around the abdomen. There is a certain amount of "give" between the o and O at the overlap.
After adjusting countless times & getting the harness on, we realised it would be a better idea to have the clasp on the top... Well, our scratches were starting to itch esp kitten just had fishy dinner before chomping on our hands. We told Uncle to watch kitten carefully to ensure kitten's safety for the next 1-2 days. Lesson learnt, practise on an inanimate object first.

does this guy know how to contact the cws if he wishes to give the kitten up? wld be a shame for the poor kitty to be abandoned (if the old man really does leave the ctry).

Anonymous I can't speak for whether he knows - he was shown yes and he seemed to understand.
