Nasty Emails

I had another email from this woman. She made threats and skirted all the issues I brought up . She also wrote back to the caregiver and accused him of lying. She also said that my 'attitude was sickening' and said that she was going to sue me for defamation (for what I am honestly not sure). She is demanding Michelle email her phone number to her so she can call Michelle - my response for the complainant to provide another number as she is so hard to contact was also met with silence. She wants to speak with Michelle because I am not in a position, according to her, to liaise with members of the public.

I am not going to respond any further and copied it again (as the last few emails have been) to Michelle as per her request. If the correspondent, whether a feeder or complainant is rude, I don't think it should be encouraged.

I had been told by the other caregiver I know in the area that she had a tendency to be difficult, but I didn't want to exclude her if she really did need help just because she might be difficult.

Sorry to hear this being blown out of proportion. Rude people should not be entertained. If not, they'll lord over you and others.

So if she really sues you, will you get into trouble? Will pray for you that you meet less nutcases.

Profpig I seriously doubt it. If I made a statement, there was justification behind it - that's a defence to any statement of defamation. It's also known sometimes as the truth defence.

This is really too much. Instead of feeling fortunate to have a catwelfare society and an absolutely dedicated Dawn to run it at truly "peanut" salary, this supposedly catw lover has to add to the already increasing burden of dealing with cat dislikers/haters!
If she is so righteous and correct, let her start her own society.

Hi Dawn, I am sorry to hear about such a difficult person from your blog. To be honest, I seriously think she is a lunatic and it is better to avoid confrontation with such people.

Just ignore her Dawn. She is one of those who will only be happy when she hears what she wants to hear and when things are done the way she wants them to be. Do not appease such people.

What does she wants to get out of this? Does it benefits more cats by kicking up such fuss?

She is just a selfish and imature woman. Don't waste your time on her.

What does she want? She wants an apology or according to her latest email (after I told her I would not be replying to her), she will take legal action.

The other caregiver wrote to her again to clarify what she had said about him as well.

If she has an ounze of sensible brain tissue in her, she would have used the "legal" cost to pay for the sterilisation. The trouble with this lady is her huge ego and iron stubborness.
I certainly won't not ask any students to pay because of the repurcussion should any of their parents coming to know of it and file a complaint to the Ministry of Education. This will result in a negative effect on the cats. I would have more than happy for physical help of the students.

Hi Dawn, I hope you are not too affected by her. How do you manage to keep your cool with such people day in day out?? You attended some kind of course?? Everytime i was about to lose it, i remind myself of you :)

Anonymous - it's a bit upsetting yes, but I do have supportive family and friends, and nice people like you who write in :)

At the end of the day, maybe it makes her feel better to vent. There are so many real problems in the world to deal with - and this isn't one of them.

1. is it a crime to accept help from students when they offered it enthusiastically and sincerely?

2. is it a crime not being able to bring stray cats into the flat because of nasty neighbours?

3. the old lady feeding the "sterilised" cats is maintaining 10 odd stray cats - isn't the student's help a jump start for her so that she can concentrate on just feeding them - which she is diligently doing (she buys and cooks fish for the cats)?

4. I asked the students for help because I am maintaining 60 odd stray cats. Yes I am working, but my family spends about $450 a month on cat food not including Vet costs -- is it a crime that I did not chip in and pay but worked alongside the students in organising, trapping and nursing the recuperating cats?

5. Is it a crime to put aside savings for future costs - cats being sick, accidents, feeding more abandoned cats?

6. Is it a crime for the job of sterilising cats to be divided amongst students and care givers when the situation is such that the care giver cannot do both?

7. The situation about the growing cat population was noticed by a ex-care giver who passed the buck on this problem.

8. How is it fair to stop the students from helping? It is helpful to make strong accusations that I have "conned" the students into "paying" for the sterilisation. Aren't you belittling the students intelligence? Aren't you stepping on defamatory grounds?

9. I was with them and their teacher on the evening of the trapping together with the old lady's relaives -- you should have applauded the community effort. 3 lucky cats were neutered.

10. One RC member (who I am working with on combating anti-cat sentiment) told me that it was a good thing this was done because 2 weeks earlier the TC organised a cat catching session. He will update TC on the students' effort.

11. This whole episode was all about how one group of students wanted to start the new school year with a community effort and the team leader worked with the old lady's son and friend in organising cages, trapping and sterilising.

The whole story is all about how the students sterilised 3 cats in an area where I could not stretch my resources. Yes, I aksed them for the help and they extended it. The students learnt through trial and error.

This is not a story about how the students were cheated. Who gained from all this? The old lady feeding the cats and the 3 lucky cats of course.

"The crazy paranoid schizo woman" you referred to

I never called you crazy, paranoid or schizo. Those are your own words.

As I have already stated, I am not continuing correspondence - not on this blog or via email.

It's unfortunate that communications have been cut because of things like this, but at the end of the day the cats still have to be done. Was she aware that CWS offers discounted sterilization rates?

Yes Anonymous - the cats were sterilised using CWS rates booked by the woman.

When I found out that the students were being asked to pay and she mentioned the perhaps we could pay FOR the feeder but I wanted to speak with the feeder to find out what the long term programme for these cats were (ie whether there would be proper management, what the feeder was going to do to help - I had already come down for one complaint in the area last year). However the complainant would not give me her number.

We have also conveyed to the students and the school that we can pay for whatver they are out of pocket for.

This sounds like a terrible misunderstanding to me. But I can see where you are coming from. My parents would not approve of me paying for the sterilization of someone else's cats. It is their money after all, and I don't earn my own income..yet.

Anyway.. I hope the project is still on? 60 cats seems like a bit much for one person to handle..

Blogger Dawn said...

Anonymous - the cats done weren't the woman's cats, but someone else. That's why I wanted to speak with the actual feeder to find out more. If the feeder was going to be responsible (ie be able to handle complaints and feed responsibly and be willing to be the resident there if the TC wants to know whom the caregiver is), but money was the only problem we would of course step in.

However if the feeder was NOT prepared to do all that - then it would be better to spend the money on another colony (or other colonies) with better caregivers because it would just mean those cats wouldn't be protected.

Crazy Paranoid Schizo Woman, you are a fucking moron. Go Fuck Yourself. What you are doing is tantamount to Harassment as propounded by the Singapore High Court in the case of Malcolmson Nicholas Hugh Bertram & Anor v Naresh Kumar Mehta [2001] 4 SLR [Singapore Law Reports] 454. May God help you if you send Dawn another threatening email. I'm watching you.

Oops sorry I meant WE offered to pay for the feeder - the woman who wrote in didn't ask us to and our offer to help if finances were an issue was never addressed.

Anonymous - relax :)
