Abuse cases in Lianhe Zaobao

Kootoo Monster sent me an article from the Lianhe Zaobao today. It seems five cats were found dead - a cat was thrown from the twelfth floor in Clementi and apparently in a very gruesome find, someone called the SPCA to report that a mother cat had her belly slashed and three 3-month old kittens were found with their skulls cracked.

How someone can think that an abuser of animals is just 'angry at cats' is beyond me when the violence done can only be disproportionate to anything the cat could possibly have done. The cat is small and essentially defenceless compared to a person. I can't imagine that it would take all that much for that same someone to be angry enough to commit violence against another person.

Thanks Kootoo Monster for the article and translation.

Sad indeed, another "murder" case, as I called it now, not abuse, because the poor cats did not make it.

Hope someone will catch the culprit soon, and the only way we have now is to put him or her to the authorities, and have the law punish him/her.

Perhaps the feeders or volunteers in the area can help look out for suspects?

Cheers

while volunteering at a children's home many years ago, i attended a talk relating to upbringing and discipline of children. on the topic of corporal punishment and how it is indirectly endorsed and even institutionalised by the use of caning as legalised punishment, the speaker made an interesting observation. she said that singaporeans are essentially a very angry people. worse, the oppresive climate makes it impossible for them to express their anger constructively, so they hit out against others as an outlet, usually the voiceless and defenseless in society.

i am inclined to agree. look at the incidences of violent crime in singapore. drivers getting into fights for honking their horns or cutting lanes, people getting stabbed to death over perceived slights and insults. the reactions are completely out of proportion to the actions that provoked them. the perpetrators are like angry time bombs waiting to explode.

so i am not surprised that helpless little kittens also bear the brunt of this anger. for perceived "wrongs" that they innocently commit or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time and falling victim to a bully who has had a bad day.

i am not saying, by any means, that the perpertrators of these heinous acts are victims and shld be excused, i am merely saying that we are in the grip of a vicious cycle.

Poor kitties.. *sob* *sob*

Yesterday, while on my way home, I notice a brown stripe tomcat lying by the side of a car along Tan Tock Seng Link. I think it just got hit by a vehicle. It is the same kitty I always see whenever I left office. It is very timid, yet adventurous. Always dashing across the road. To see it lying still with dry blood from its mouth, noce & ears. So poor thing.

Told hubby, so we make a u-turn & park our bike. Hubby pick it up & place it under a shady tree. Hopefully it will rest in peace.

Cried all the way home & once I rch home, we hug & kiss all my 3 kitties.

My heart to goes to all the poor kitties esp the community cats.

May the sicko who kill the cats gets his retribution.
Have a neighbour (elderly man) staying downstairs always chasing away stray cats sleeping anywhere at corridor near his flat, and often throwing away my cat water bowl for the stray cats downstairs. We always end up with heated argument, me often mentioning God will punished him be maimed, handicapped or met an accident, broken leg or something.
Hallellujah! Seems my wish granted.
Saw him last week walking slowly, with difficulty on a walker. I know this is bad, (should have shown him sympathy) ... but I could not help but gloat and I told him off -- this is God punishment for his cruelty to animals.
God work miracles when you least expected. Have faith in God.
Hope the cat killer will be arrested by the authorities soon, or met an accident, get maimed or handicap.
Or may the cat killer have a change of heart, regret his wrong doing and remorse.

anonymous,

i also notice that s'poreans are constantly angry & uptight ... there are PRC immigrants here who wonder why s'porean parents discipline their kids so harshly instead of firmly but lovingly teaching the kids right from wrong ... these new citizens thought they are coming to a 1st-world society but soon discover that nothing is further from the truth - 1st world infrastructure here, but 3rd world behaviors.

Anonymous - that's a very interesting observation and I do believe you're right. A friend of mine once commented we're lucky we have strict gun control laws as he thought the havoc wrecked by Singaporeans would be quite horrific due to the reasons you mentioned.

Is there an online version of the article someone can post? I have a small scanned in one that Kootoo monster sent and can post it otherwise.

Dear Aminah
Where did you learn such vengeful thoughts?
Tsk tsk
Why don't God convert all such bad people to good?

Dear Anonymous,

Pertaining your comments, where I learn such vengeful thoughts ... answer is I been through a lot! I seen cats and kittens being abandoned, animals abused, cats abused maimed, handicap, caused by abusers, so much so, I lost my patience. Yes these things makes me vengeful. At times I asked God help me, erased all evil thoughts of hatred to animal abusers and please convert the bad people to good.
But then, woe is me, I hear more animal abuse happening. What wrong have cats done to deserve the fate getting tortured by abusers. Cats got the right to live. They are helpless little creatures and it is us humans duty to protect them from harm's way.

Geez! Would you like to know my curse on another person, cat hater .... and my prayers work on him too. Oh never mind, my stories will be printed into a book someday and all proceeds goes to Cat Welfare Society! Hahaha!
:-D
Oh by the way, please read up on my cat Lucky miracle story in my multiply.com blog
http://aminahbee.multiply.com/
God may not answer all prayers, well at least HE answered some of my prayers. :-)
Yes indeed God work miracles in many ways. Have faith in God and sometime your prayers answered! Hallellujah! Amen!

Dear Dear Aminah

You are not alone. My friend and I also curse and swear at people who complained to TC and who complained about our feeding. Just cannot stand these people. They deserve it to be so unkind.

Aminah, frankly dont put down the good name of christianity which I assume you are. Christianity teaches one to love and to help the sinner not curse them. There is a line, love the sinner and hate the sin. And very seriously I dont think it is God that curse those people. It is your own heart. People might not like cats, but that does not mean we go cursing them not esp in the name of God. It only gives our religion a bad name. Everything happens for a reason, a person dying or a cat dying. The important thing is to be rational and not be crazy if not you are no better than those who strap bombs on to themselves and kill themselves in the name of Jihad.

Anonymous I don't think that Aminah was referring to Christianity or any other religion or intending to put down any religion. I believe Aminah was trying to express her anger and disbelief all religions aside. Let's keep religion out of this and say that all of us are just very upset that this happened. As you said, all religions preach goodness and positive action and none would have condoned an act like this.
