Old time cats, new complaints

I just had a very upset caregiver on the phone, crying. It turns out her property officer called her up and said they were being harassed by a resident who had called three times in the last three days to complain there were too many cats. He told her if she didn't do something, he would have them trapped.

I asked the caregiver if the cats were all sterilised. They all were. She said that she had been feeding the same colony of around 5 cats for more than a year without new additions. She also fed at 11 pm and sometimes did not get home till 1 am to ensure that it didn't attract attention to the cats. She also fed in the corner of the void deck.

The caregiver was very upset, and actually had a hospital appointment which she missed because she was so distraught.

I spoke with the officer and asked him what was happening. He said that there were complaints about 'strays'. I pointed out that these cats had all been sterilised, which he didn't seem to be aware of, and had been there for more than a year. He said that the complainant is calling repeatedly. I told him I can speak with the complainant if he likes. The officer said that the complainant would not listen. He says he will discuss this with his Property Manager

The caregiver also told me that she suspected it might be a complainant famous to everyone in the estate for complaining about everything. He had complained about her feeding once (she went to the MP and he told her to go right ahead). She said the TC always bows to his demands because he is so persistent.

Amazing how such TC officer will not ignore such persistent unreasonable complainant but ignore a caregiver's plea to respect the effort put in on sterilisation and management!
Surely this is discrimination in the TC's discharge of his duties and ought to be brought up against him.
One way to put such "complain king or queen" down is to ask for a face to face meeting! either at the RC office or at the TC.

She asked - but the officer said he wasn't even sure where the complainant lived as he didn't want to give details.

this complainant shld really get a life.

the worrying thg is even if TC doesn't remove the cats, will the complainant be vicious enough to take thgs into his own hands and hurt the cats? it's a no-win situation for everyone else when such a person such as this exists.

in theory the TC shld not favour one resident over another but i guess it's human nature to want to stop a person from yapping in yr ear. that's why the one who screams the loudest always wins, regardless of the merits of the case.

Ahh....the mysterious anonymous complainant who is very much venerated by some TC officer!
It is wonder how such TC officer doesn't feel that it was wrong to pander to such complainant but slight a caregiver with proper identity.
Such injustice must be corrected as it frustrates so many of us who truly put in effort to better our home our estate than such complainant who merely spews saliva onto a phone mouthpiece!

The feeders follow all the rules and does the right things. Yet bad things will happen to the cats just because of one unreasonable complainant.
Is there a way to help and save the cats?

Funny.... how come I complain everyday that they dont built the bus stop next to my flat so that I dont have to walk so far. Yet no one bothers to take action and this guy complains about Cats and the whole TC goes into panic mode. Why? They suspect he is some minister who calling anonymously?

Poor feeder, I also feed my kitties at 11pm with a shrill alarm and wont be back til 1am at times, we are already fully law-abiding and sensible but still facing another case of 1complain killing all. I'l go for the officer's neck til he divulge the culprit.

Feeder union take action! We 'persist' with petition and drag this noisy killer-to-be out of the dark...must monitor him/ her just incase cats start missing...should put a warrant on his/her head, i'll draft the poster.

Vegancat - true.

ej - I spoke to the officer and pointed out this is a ridiculous complaint. He said he'd speak to his boss and get back to us.

defining moments - the caregiver isn't even sure he LIVES there. It's right next to her own block though.

CO - very funny! And a good point.

Great, Dawn. If TC acknowledged that the complaint is ridiculous, then it is unlikely the cats will be trapped.

ej - he just said they'd be getting a lot of flak from the complainant who didn't listen when they tried to explain. I said I'd be happy to talk to him. He said he needed to speak with his boss and would get back to me.

Yes Dawn, in fact now it makes me think if I call everyday and I say "I DEMAND TC MOVE THE BUS STOP TO MY DOOR STEP BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO WALK PAST THE CAT THAT IS SITTING WITHIN MY VIEW 100 M AWAY FROM THE PRESENT BUS STOP" perhaps the cat word will get more response......

A friend of mine who returned to live after being away in the land of the LOTR, called **There IS no STRAY CATS" TC almost every day to complain of real estate stickers "all over the block as well as on MRT track pillars.
He was told that "We will get back to you." or "We will discuss about this and get back to you.",etc and often the TC officer would not keep the promises to call by a certain date.
But i told him his TC is very efficient when it comes to responding to complaints about cats. He said he would want to meet the MP in person. I said ..good for you and, even though, he wasn't an animal person, he would ask the MP to tone down on using his month contribution to kill cats!
