I think one of the reasons why MPs cannot empathise with cat-caregivers is that they are now detached from the heartlands, so it is very hard for them to comprehend why such non-bread-an-butter issues mean so much to some residents. This is unlike the kampong days, when the chief resides right in the midst of the habitat.
A few days ago, I met a RC member in the lift in his round of distributing anti-dengue leaftlets. I spoke to him about TnRM and the problems related to free-roaming cats. Straight-away he understood as he has spoken to his neighbours to keep their cats indoor and he has seen their cats messing the corridors. He also expressed a significant drop in the number of cats and he was grateful when told of the effort of his "few" fellow residents who implement TnRM.

Our MPs are now businessman.... they are directors of companies, they drive swanky cars and live in condos. They are a class above us... why would they bring themselves to our level. To them it is "just obey us you citizen!"

I think that some MPs definitely come from more privileged backgrounds, but it doesn't mean that they don't care - it may be that they don't know. Dr Lily Neo for example has been working hard for the people who are under-privileged in her area and that's admirable.

Hi Dawn

Do not be fooled by what the MPs are doing on the surface. I have heard from someone who knew this particular MP (though not very well) she is not as what you think she is.

I don't know Dr Neo - but she is doing something to help the community, which I think is good.
