Two of the cats

Two of the cats
Originally uploaded by dawnkua.

Here are two of the cats. They look pretty well fed and healthy. The more worrying thing is that he intends eventually to breed the cats.

He also told us that he will kill anyone who tries to take them away and got quite upset at one point.

We told him we're just concerned about the welfare of the cats and don't want them to be hot or cramped (or unsterilised) in the van. We pointed out that if he was willing to keep ALL the cats that are bred, and has the ability to look after them, that's one thing, but he plans on eventually releasing the offspring. He said once they are too inbred it's bad for the cats. We pointed out that will just be increasing the population of the cats - even if it's not in Singapore.

He said that his cats are home cats and cannot be released - but the offspring will be feral and therefore they can cope on their own.

He says he plans to get a new vehicle and modify it for the cats to get more ventilation.

He just SMSed me and invited me for coffee or breakfast sometime.

Increasing cat population and has no regard to the offspring makes his pursuit strange and irresponsible.

This guy sounds mental. You should report him. I am sure we can have enough funds to sterilise all the cats and let them go. I don't mind paying.

Lucky me :)

Ac - it's not the paying. It's whether he'll agree to it.

Will AVA be able to step in based on hoarding? ASPCA can, how abt SPCA? Carmen

No - none of the welfare groups in Singapore have police powers. We need to be able to show the animals are abused before the AVA can step in and they probably will not fall under that definition.

cat welfare society needs to expand. there are more and more cases of cats being abused victims of mental shitheads. (some of which enjoys attempting to date with coffee and breakfast while their victims get locked up in a cage inside a van - blxxdy hxll! double caging, just imagine!)
picking up cats and confining them in cages, toilets and now, a van - are these are cases of animal abuse? and with that wanna-date-dawn-van-creep's idea of throwing out off-springs of his abused victims into the streets?? surferket, he no weirdo lah, weirdos have basic class of being in a state of weird. this one is just another freaking arXehole of a loser. errk.

This is one instance that shows a law requiring compulsory sterilisation of ALL animals will come in handy. Otherwise a warning that he will be fined for abandonment of kittens may knock some sense into him.

Maybe he is lonely and glad to found someone with common interest-that is you Dawn! From the sharing, I think he is really not sound. Please don’t meet him alone.

And try to get that poor girl out, she had been so gang raped!!

Anonymous, maybe he was just trying to be friendly - after telling Rebecca and I earlier he would kill anyone who had touched his cats.

Honestly it would be very good if we could somehow work with social workers as well as mental health professionals. I do know however how overworked social workers are - but we'll definitely look into it anyway.

Anonymous he won't consider letting these cats go - in Singapore. He says overseas is another matter.

one finds that many ppl who are unemployed or underpriviledged hv dreams of moving away. i think it's a reflection of the fact that they are not thriving in this system and want to start over somewhere else. this may be understandable but sadly they don't sound like they have the skill sets to get by in a new ctry either.

Now I am beginning to think he may be one of “those” responsible for new cats in the area…

Unfortunately he's not frail and nowhere near 65.

CDC?

I've worked with both in a previous case - and they're both very over-worked and don't seem to be able to help very much. Social workers told me they are just over-whelmed.

However will look into that again.

It is sad that there is really very little community support for people with psychiatric problems such as this man. He is obviously askew in his perception of his love for the cats.
Like the man with the cat in chain, it will require a lot of patience and perseverance to win the trust and only with that trust gained, then he will listened and act upon advice about the cats.
I think Dawn and Rebecca have made a small step in the right direction.

The man who chained up his 1 cat has caused enough attention and following up....its nothing compared to this case which owner is equally stubborn and worse, encoraging breeding!!! I'm fainting...Dawn has to set up a 'Cat-Crisis-Centre'cum 'Cat-owner-counselling-Unit' full-time..

if bigger space is needed, buy him an old bus, like a cabin. cats can be released and walkways constructed than trap in the cage.

He is weird wanting to breed the cats. If you complain to AVA or SPCA, cats may be removed or destroyed. Leave him alone, don't harass him unless you can sterilise and rehome the cats.

He may appear homeless/alternative lifestyle at least the cats have a caregiver. Just monitor him and if possible, healthcare and social worker could also provide some assistance like proper housing.

One of the options we spoke to him about was housing and to see if we can ask around for cheaper housing but he's happy in the van. He said he will be getting a new van shortly and plans to ventilate it.

He is however insistent the cats cannot be released from the cages even in a bigger vehicle as he says they will fight.

His van looks new, money may not be the problem. Someyimes people quarrel and move out of the house.
Is he a minority, thought saw someone feeding a similar looking cat with the van door open in a park.

I did not speak to the feeder.

According to him, he got the van and then lost his job afterward.

whatever lah huh, it's cruel to lock cats up in cages, period. cages can be in the form of a toilet or a van or a storeroom. or like this 'friendly' creep, double-caging : a cage inside a van? the pet boarding place i know? they have a so-called sick bay where there are compartment of cages inside. the sick cats that goes in there mostly do not get well. they DIE. and they died MISERABLY. it's plain simple: freedom above all else. just basic freedom ah, don't talk about stupid stuff like letting off animals into their natural habitat and all lah. what?! what? 11 cats living inside cages inside a van now, oh working towards returning to mother nature out of singapore? go where? johor bahru or perth? or back to the great safari in africa? please lah this dumb creep! still want to kill anyone who'would try "touch" his cats?! Idiot! locking yourself inside your car for one hour, then one day, then one week, then one month, then one year. oh yes, sure you can get someone to give you water and biscuits. go on, try that but the faintest of imagination will tell you how cruelly mad it is to confine live animals. Dawn, Rebecca, really thank you for keeping up with your patience and good work for the cats - I would have told him I'll gladly have hannibal do him in!! Creep!!

The cats are really pitiful. But don't you think the man is even more pitiful? He doesn't seem very mentally stable. If he were, who knows, he might make a great cat owner. I really hope someone will be able to help this poor guy out.

Dear anonymous, NO. NO. NO. This human male creep is NOT pitiful. He is NOT a mental case. He is at best to some : an extremely distasteful weirdo. He does NOT need help. He just needs to stop abusing 11 cats out of which one female is being constantly attacked by the other male cats, ALL LOCKED UP INSIDE CAGES INSIDE A VERY STUPID LOOKING RED PAINTED VAN. If you are human and female, that would mean that you are being caged inside a van 24 hours a day and having 10 other male counterparts making attempts to rape you constantly. There will be other similarly stupid and cruel creeps who will see this current creep and COPY his cruel actions. It really does NOT matter ever, whether he actually can be the best and most loving cat owner. FOR NOW, HE IS CONFINING CATS AND THIS IS SHEER CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

Please explain why the guy is more pitiful? Is he deprived of his movement & caged up in a hot van 24/7? Last heard, he was asking Dawn for coffee or b'fast.
Pitiful? *Bang head on wall*
