Another irresponsible cat owner?

Just back from the post office. There was a rather panicky woman who called about a cat just giving birth outside her home. This is one of the problem blocks that Rebecca has gone down to. The woman who called had apparently been tossing mothballs in the area so that the cat would not come nearer - but then she realised it might not be to good for newborn kittens.

Rebecca went down, found the cats - the whole block has tons of irresponsible cat owners. I'm awaiting her call now to see if we need to go down and try and flyer the block to find the owner. This cat is on a high floor so it's very likely to be someone's cat.

in an earlier post someone commented that a cat owner had announced the birth of a homebred kitten in a local pet forum. see http://www.pets.com.sg/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35178

subsequent developments in that particular thread (in the forum) have revealed some startling notions: that islam forbids sterilisation of pets, both housepets and strays and that a cat "is like us. They need to have their own babies at least once in their lifetime".

with misconceptions like these no wonder there's a proliferation of strays in s'pore...

Sigh - well MUIS has said that it is not against the tenets of Islam. In fact they are distibuting our brochures to the mosques.

Not being racist but it is strange often it is the malay community that has some that have really no regard for family planning be it in the number of children that they have which sometimes reach football team sizes, marrying young and divorcing young and towards their pets.... this notion of cats must be allowed to give birth, it is against Islam to sterlize.... to real life stories of malay cat owners that abandon newborns, home cats and even one family in Woodlands that fenced up their house so that their abandoned persian cat cannot come back home..... Put it this way with the kind of mentality and mindset, if Islam didnt disallow dogs.... they would be breeding dogs at home.....

It is also no wonder that HDB doesnt want to entertain lifting the ban. My guess is that it is really afraid that there would be a cat population explosion among the malays but then it is politically incorrect to say that hence they choose to just keep mum and use the same reasons over and over again. Unless the Malay community can wake up and be responsible, we are all going to suffer for their sake...

Anonymous - to be fair there are unreasonable cat owners of every race. I just had an email from someone saying that a person from another religion (that isn't Islam) won't sterilise pregnant cats because it is against their religion.

it may be a case of seeing new life as God's blessing, which it is but u have to ask yrself - after the miracle of birth, can u upkeep that life, whether human or animal, in a meaningful and responsible way?
