Why were cats trapped?

Another crazy afternoon trying to figure out why the cats were trapped. The town council quickly wrote a letter to have them released, which is good, but I spoke to the two officers who are supposedly in charge and one officer told me sterilised cats can be trapped if there is a complaint. I told him there was an agreement this would not be done by the TC. He transferred me to another officer who said that he did not know whom trapped the cats, but it wasn't him. I spoke to the AVA and the cats were sent in by pest control from these areas.

I then called back and was transferred to a third officer. The cats will be released - but why they were caught in the first place I don't know. All I DO know is that I am getting inundated by calls and SMSes from worried residents in the area asking me what is happening. One woman said she's going to stop sterilising until she knows that the TC will leave the sterilised cats alone.

The pest control company gets paid for nos. of cats caught. TC did not know who authorised the culling? No records at all? Nobody knew but pest control knew what to do?

2 months ago, we had a meeting with the TC officers (North side - Singapore) According to the officers, they will round up our cats even though the cats were sterilised. We asked them why? and they said residents complained that some cats scratched their cats and they also said that when cats are frightened, they run up the cars and scratched their vehicles.

The TC officers said they are problematic cats, so they trapped them and ........ (the rest of the story, I need not say....)

not all tc officers stick to their words. on one hand, they promised not to trap sterilised cats. on the other hand, they trapped because they said these cats are problematic.

problematic in what sense? as far as i know, cats don't run up the vehicles when frightened. they only hide under the cars or drains or run for their lives quickly. only fools will believe that cats run up the cars... right?

huh - someone knows. Now the question is to find out whom and what happened exactly.

Anonymous - I'm sorry to hear that. Do drop me an email if you want to discuss it further and see what can be done.

Anonymous - cats do sit on cars. They don't however scratch cars usually.

Call the pest control company and ask them who authorized the trapping. its disgraceful.. we should be able to name the individuals involved and shame them

Simply outrageous! Suddenlu uka suka activates pest control and waste taxpayers' money (the caregivers will get the cats released). After that, pointing fingers.
STERILISED CATS SHOULD NOT BE TRAPPED AND CULLED.
This belief and 'pact' should not be betrayed.
Give a thought to the hard work and feelings of the caregivers.
Allegation of cats' scratchings should be handled openly and fairly. And not sending the poor 'defendants' to death without proof.

Cats r smart creatures, they do not scratch a shiny, metal surface.I did seen one ginger cat scratching e tyre of a car once,so clever.
I do apologise on behalf of e cat though, hope the minor scratching of the back tyre, doesn't do much damage.

If cats scratching tyres can cause any damage, they won't stand the gravels on the road. I too have seen cats scratching tyres and I saw no markings at all. The fear is the ignorance of drivers who blame everything on cats! Because they worship their cars!

Someone in the TC did give the go-ahead and that should be in some kind of log or documentation since it's an expense incurred.

OMG
why does such thing happen all the time?
will the TC keep doing this until feeders have no alternative ways to take care of the cats?
there was no peace ever since the agreement commences.
