Do you think it's kind to feed strays?

Do you think it's kind to feed strays (edited)?

Thanks to Lingcat for this photo. A caregiver called up to tell me that these posters had gone up (and I encouraged her to call the TC and ask them about it) and then Lingcat saw them and sent a copy to me.

First of all, the poster makes no sense. Why would the cats cause a mess if they are being fed? Let me put it this way - you have a big pile of garbage versus food that has been prepared specially for you, which would you pick? In fact, most animals go into the garbage because they aren't fed.

Secondly, they spread diseases? So does the woman screaming in the poster.

The point is - if you have regular, responsible caregivers who feed the cats in a clean manner, you have less animals going into the garbage. There is no food left around, and hence you get less pests. So if you want to keep the area clean, then responsible feeding should be encouraged!

Update - the photo above has been edited as the town council officer asked if I could take the name of the town council down from this blog entry. While it is a public poster in a public place (and hence I did in fact put the whole poster up), I have taken down the poster as a result.

The caregivers should go around the estate to take photos of garbage created by the humans and send them to their TC. That is what I did.

Indeed..i too have a huge collection of human-generated rubbish to refute any complaints that cats are the culprits!
MPs and other VIPs do their walkabout in the estate AFTER the cleaners work overtime to clean up the mess. The MPs and VIPs then return to their landed properties and be fed "rubbish" feedback by inefficient town council officers.
Having a blog of the "real" Tampines with photos and video clips will wake up their MPs and VIPs.

I think the proportion of non-feeder litterbugs far outweigh feeders who forget to clear up after feeding! All the feeders that I personally know always clear up after feeding the cats and they would even help to throw any other rubbish they find lying around, just so that they can't be accused of littering. Posters like these are doing nothing but help to generate further intolerance towards strays that certainly did not wind up being strays all on their own! *gggrrrrrrrr* Do the people creating such posters even bother to do basic research on the topics of their posters??!!! Obviously not!

This is why these bunch of nicompoop TC officers are irresponsibly worse than irresponsible feeders.I hope some of them are pc literate to read these comments about them here!

Tampines is always coming up with stupid posters and banners. They were the ones with a banner that said feeding of stray cats is displaced kindness and now rudely questioning our sanity and verbally assaulting the stray feeders' humane programme.

They fail to stop people from littering so they go after the cats.

The people behind the posters know nothing about humane treatment of animals, they are gainst cats and caregivers.

They are the ones not thinking from the head and heart. I don't need a gabage mentality from TC.

I hope more Tampines residents complain about how offensive this poster is.

i think it is totally B.S to have a "No feeding" poster. What is this going to educate on our next generation?

to think this way, it is actually telling us that u need to care only for urself, not anything unrelated to u - be it animal, charity or people.

Becoz why? Our dear TC encourage ppl not to take care of our lovely community cats but forgot to focus on the real reason we should do for our community - people and animals are part of our community.

I have a friend who lives in Tampines and he is just plain fedup with the inefficiency of the TC officers in stopping the pasting of advertising at his block. He has been transferred from one officer to another and NOTHING was done. I told him that his TC is very efficient when it comes to complain about cats. He is going to call his TC and f*** them this time!

Please direct the energy from your anger to emails to the MPs in Tampines. Here's the email addresses

If we don't speak up for the cats, no one will.
This scape-goating of cats must be stopped!

I'm appalled that this was produced by a Town Council. Primary school children could probably come up with something better.

And what's up with all the silly vocalising animals?

Interestingly enough, they do show people who love animals - the male feeder and the guys interacting with the birds. Then the sterotype of a female in distress and over a few birds. Hahha....i have never seen real free-flying birds asking for food.
Why would cats eat from the garbage when "lunch" is coming.
Probably drawn by a male - see the happy males, frowning females. Good for a laugh.

oh dawn, i so, so, so agree with you! can anyone or how to write in to the author/authority who endorses this poster? as it is, we responsible caregivers always have to put up with harassing stares and verbal abuses when taking care of community cats and now there's this darn poster (not the first i've seen. and gawd, the visual's still so stuck in the 80s'...duh...gimme something more refreshing lah...) to make things more difficult! which reminds me of a good laugh the other day : a typical guy friend made a remark that cats are so dirty to my girlfriend. she, stoned-face and all, looked at a certain part of his anatomy and told him that he must be dirtier. (guy friend visits some 'b'-island frequently) ONCE and FOR ALL : CATS ARE VERY CLEAN BY NATURE.
