HDB clarifies

We wrote into the HDB this morning to enquire about their stance on community cats in HDB estates. As some of you know, there has been much made of the fact that cats are not allowed in town councils because the HDB rules do not allow cats IN flats. As a result, the town council chairperson, Dr Teo Ho Pin, felt it should be extended to town councils and the common areas as they were administering HDB estates for the HDB.

The HDB wrote back very quickly and their reply states that their rule only applies to cats in flats and is not applicable to cats in town council estates. I am sure that this will be a very useful clarification for officers and MPs who may have misunderstood what the HDB rule referred to.

What is MP Teo up to? Depriving community cats their only hope for dignified existence with their caregivers and all those residents who are against culling?

Perhaps Dr Teo does not know? We'll be writing to him to let him know as well.

Sure hope Dr Teo listens and removes this ridiculous Zero Stray policy. Mildly disturbing that he had "felt it should be extended to town councils and the common areas as they were administering HDB estates for the HDB."

I believe that the TCs feel that as they are essentially hired by the HDB to manage the estates that this was an extension of the no cats in flats rule. We have mentioned to several TCs that there is no need to extend the rule beyond what the HDB has said as that is reading too much into a bylaw which relates to a very specific situation. It's good though that the HDB has confirmed it.

Dr Teo instead of showing basic compassion for community cats under the TNR/humane caregivers's programme, has shown disturbing ambition to expel community cats from HDB estates.

If he can't solve cats issues the huamne way, please don't give holocaust solutions.

Yes I agree!!! I cant imagine that a person with a Doctorate qualification siting on such a high and digified position does not apprehend basic rights of small animals.

I agree with huh,its so disappointing and frustrating that Dr Teo even wanted to legalise and extend the HDB ruling

dany - don't think he wanted to legislate the rule. Basically it was a policy that he meant the TCs to follow.

Now only i know wat type of person
Dr Teo is,i'm so disappointed! And i'm living under his ward, sembawang town council. My cats r in jeopardy if he decided to hav a mass culling exercise.
i'm already in a lot of stress confining my sterilised cats in my flat.I received a warning letter fr HDB once,i have to hide my cats,i can't open e door, had to put up all these ugly meshes on e windows. It's like a prison in my own home.I wouldn't have pick up my cats 4yrs ago if i know HDB had this unfair ruling. They were just 2-3wks old.Doesn't pay to be kind.

Apple, don't regret your kind act for saving the kittens. Those who tried causing mass culling will meet a sad end to their life. At least Sembawang has MP Bee Wah, right?

Eh, he's not MP for Sembawang GRC, but is Mayor, North West District
(Bukit Panjang).

Lee Bee Wah is in AMK GRC.

Check this MP listing.

apple - I don't think anyone is planning a mass culling but it IS good to take this opportunity to speak with your TC. I know the people under Sembawang TC are trying to start up a group there too.

It's a good thing you're being responsible and keeping the cat indoors and I'm sure you'd agree that the joy they have brought you far outweighs any inconvenience.

Dr Teo is with Bukit Panjang actually.

I think the group is trying to set up a TNRM group and work together. If you'd like to get in touch, drop me an email.
