Cat walked home

I just got an email from the community cat caregiver who lost her cat. Apparently she put the cat (a favourite of hers) with a friend while she was away for a few days as she was worried the cat might get lost. The cat has been to this friend's home before, recuperating there from an injury for a month earlier this year.

However this time, the cat pried open a window and escaped. The caregiver came back, put up advertisements everywhere and checked with whomever she could think of.

This morning she went to feed her usual community cats and there he was in his usual spot. The cat had walked from the west of Singapore right into central Singapore. This isn't the first story I've heard of cats covering pretty amazing distances - and not even the first one in Singapore. I read somewhere once that cats are able to tell direction from the angle of the sun. Considering it's been raining so much, who knows how this cat got home but it's amazing he did!

could it be illusion? But happen once to me when cat escaped from pet carrier and disappeared then must have ran across 8-lane highways, several roads over 1km and found him waiting for meals at same spot.

Anonymous - I don't think it was because she mentioned the cat was lost in one area and the cat turned up in a completely different area. She also said the paws looked a bit blistered as if it had walked quite a distance.

The caregiver should bring this special cat into her home permanently.

I agree with Surferket the caregiver should bring this special cat into her home.
Living in the streets is not safe for this miracle cat, it might be captured by TC - send to AVA, or dangers faced with wild stray dogs or getting injured in fights with other stray cats, or getting injured or killed in an accident, or animal abusers. It be a shame if its life is cut short. Really this miracle cat is special, to know its way back home from a great distance of the west of Singapore and back to his old neighbourhood in central Singapore.

ya, take the cat home...even humans can get lost from all the complicated and dangerous roads.

Just saw another roadkill last night.

I think everyone the cat made his preference quite clear. He was in a nice home (I saw some photos) and he chose not only to (1) escape but to (2) walk back to his original spot. Shouldn't it be about what makes the cat happy and not only what we think makes him happy?

This is very inspiring. I've just lost my cat of 7 years at my block. I suspect he was taken away since last Tues (18 Dec 2007) - some kids at the playground said they saw 2 women taking pictures of him on Mon. For 7 yrs I've taken care of him, brought him to the vet when he was sick etc and now he's gone. I really wish I know what happened to him. He's dark greyish, two hind legs are white, one of the ears is clipped. I hope he is as smart as your cat but my cat is quite domesticated as he has lived downstairs all his life. He doesn't know how to survive outside.
